Episode Summary

Today, we speak with Brandon Reed, owner of Pool Volution. He sits down to talk about what drives him to provide insight and education to fellow pool pros and why he believes that business ownership is the key to making a serious living out of a career in this industry.

“Most pool guys are horrible business guys,” says Brandon, “but they know pools.” Yet, Brandon continues, at a certain point, your skill as a tradesperson is not enough. He discusses the importance of becoming well-versed in the world of business as a pool professional.

“If you want to make any type of decent money,” Brandon continues, your best bet is to become a business owner. “You’re going to have to transition one way or the other.” And the best way to build your entrepreneurial skill set is by surrounding yourself with the right people—particularly mentors.

Brandon then explains what led him to establish Pool Volution. He admits that the brand began simply as a way to “prove himself” to those who doubted his potential, but later, as his audience grew, his motivation changed to something more selfless.

“Thank God—something turned a new leaf in me. Something told me that I have value for people. Now it’s all about my followers. I love them to death. I care about them. I want to do the best that I can for them while I have the time available.”
